well i should get working on raiden now that kang is retired. im gunna put the 18v drives and andrew drives into it this time so thatll save me tons of space and complexity Smile spektrum for this robot too so thatll instantly make it 10x better lol.

now just to get the IBC in there... seems i over-estimated the size of the frame XD will be tough work to get it in there..

well i spent all night cadding and playing around with raiden after i initially found that it wasnt long enough to accomodate the IBC or a full 24v (from 18v)

now it seems as though ive found a solution and have hopefully made the weapon shaft mount stronger in the process, and the drive balance should be better too Smile

basically instead of having the weapon shaft behind the box section and welded onto the base and the rear of the section it will now be essentially carved into the box section, with the shaft welded on 4 different sides and on top down to about 40mm (on an 80mm length) which has moved the disk about 30mm fowards giving me a much greater reach and the ability to move the drives foward about 30mm too, therefore allowing me to slot the IBC in nicely behind it Smile and there is more steel frame and the batteries are further behind the wheels so the drive weight distribution should be evened out some.

im still fiddling with battery layouts, but just to get this thing working asap and given the hard life ive already given the nimh cells ill probably just do the old stick em side by side for now Smile the load will definitely be less then kangs anyway so itll live..

and the teeth, in the pics before they are sitting outside the ring where i was going to weld them, but to make it less ridiculous and far stronger im going to cut some of that outer ring out and recess the teeth in there Smile theres still plenty of bit in there in any case, at least more than most disk spinners ive seen.

and i thought kang was fairly dense lol... oh crap

the only real unknown at this stage is really how to keep the bearings on the disk and the disk on the shaft. more than likely a giant clamp collar on the bottom of the shaft but i need to think about how to attach the giant 30mm bearings to either side of the disk...

Thats looking more and more like Inspector General with bigger teeth Cool

I suppose imitating the #2 ranked robot in australia can't be a bad idea. Wink

I *was* thinking about rebuilding IG with a belt-drive to get rid of the achilles heel (the angle grinder gearbox), but I'm not really into High KE spinners, so I wouldnt have added the big teeth myself

Maybe (if Mel is serious about retiring) I'll think about a new version of Scoopy-Doo instead and see if I can help her climb some places in the ladder, or if she doesnt like that, I have a few other "unusual" ideas in mind it might be fun to tinker with.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.. Razz

Now all we need is an IG vs Raiden fight Twisted Evil
I don't think it was so much of an imitation but was completly unplanned, evolving from the wedges of the steel roadkill... Smile

But Yoda would say “stealing does not make one great”
So maybe any greatness Raiden has is because of a dude with funny pants.

Most ideas are just recycled anyway, (Isnt IG copied from Surgeon General?)
Its what you add to the concept that makes it yours and Glen has added his own style and building techniques to create a modern, sleek, well armoured robot with a high Energy Weapon.

A total Biatch package, just like Glen. Very Happy Very Happy

LOL awweee thanks george XD

having a look over it i can see the resemblance is there especially when its upside down, so when are you going to send over the rest of the IG blue prints XD lol

well this morning i removed the wheel from one andrew mod and got the new front plate on ready to epoxy over the big chunk orbit took out. i also found the motor has a ding in it but still seems to work fine. that shouldnt be too hard to fix anyway.

this weekend i hope to have the drives mounted, the wheel slots cut out, the shaft welded to the robot and the teeth on the disk. maybe mount the IBC if im lucky and productive Smile

Glen is a super pirate tahts for sure, he steals so much crap.

Heres the story, a while abck i ws chatting with Glen about my next robot design and it was gonna be a Miso style undercutter bar spiner setup and what do i find next locla event, RAIDEN, a full copy of what i was gonna do but it is damn cool so its aight

BUT THEN i told of my plans for a lightweight which will use up some 300 watt drive setups and one of the two linear actuators i still have in a crusher design and now what do i see, a vertical crusher which uses onf oe my actuators and now gonna have 300 watt drive setups. PIRATTEEEE

HA ha ha, its all good, will make me come up with something funkier and cooler anyway so nahh

I didnt mean that I.G. was an original undercutter design.. and yes, it was inspired by Surgeon General Wink

The visual differences between Surgeon General and Inspector General are pretty major though.. SG has exposed wheels, a boxy structure and a KE weapon.

Raidens low curvey shape and internal wheel/battery/IBC layout just looks very like I.G. thats all.. Smile

Designs are copied quite often and sometimes even improved upon. One robot I found though, no one has been even game to cloning....

Yes, I speak of the sexy petrol guzzling spinner known as WARHEAD! People have copied Razer (Venom, Ming) but no one has even gone close to attemping a Warhead copy.....

It goes to show, if you design something soo original, it might be not be easily cloned... Cool

It might have something to do with the 12,000 pounds (~$30,000 Aus) that Warhead was reputed to cost as well.. Wink

Yeah, there was a lot of sponsored parts that went into Warhead, like the specialist hydraulics used and the CNC work (That spinning dome took over 120hours on the CNC!) But a lot of it was hand crafted.. The wings, tail, body panels, chassis, and the rest of the styling is something you just cannot buy from a shop...

Warhead is truly a unique machine.

If you know the UK featherweight Venom ( 12kg version of Razer , Spent over £1000 on it ) Then James Cooper has built a Warhead copy aswell , it's called Predator , it has a titanium tail and a supposed nitro engine spinning dome . James is keeping things uder wraps so its all hush hush .
