Given that there are several robot's out there with the ability to flip and the fact that on more than one occation I've been almost flipped by robots with no apparent flipping ability (I have seen other robots actually flipped) I would suggest that being able to self right or drive upside down is critical.

If you are looking for a simple method of doing this take a look at vincent, basically the drive wheels can penetrate the wedge.

O.k, so question:

Could a car door actuator be run by a 9.6v NiCad drill batter?

I read it as being the actuator for the central locking.
They're usuall a small motor with a rack and pinion syle gear setup on them.

They're pretty light and have a decent amount of power.
