so options for weapons.
stainless steel cutting disk around 250mm diameter 8mm thick
bisaloy cutting disk around 250 mm diameter and 8mm thick
multiple saw baldes bolted togeather for stregnth (thinking this is a "bad neweyn" idea and will probably hit myself if I do it)
The quesation of course is what shape the blade should take. it will be a disk as a bar weapon is to easy to stop.

i reckon biz disc or something
but yeha def a kinetic weopon as tahtd be cool and a bar isnt hard to stop if its a good weight and going at a good speed, if i had orbits old 1kg bar on orbit now and ran it itd still do very well and barely stop i think _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

that may be true but I'm not planning on using a ev worrier, the magna fan motor is fine.
I'm thinking of upsizing this pattern 8mm thick of course

There isn't any cutting edges on a disc like that. They act more like sand paper. You will need to modify it slightly so you could bite into the other robot.
How many teeth were you planning on using?
Stacked saw blades sounds like an interesting idea.

I was thinking of using 4 teeth on the diamond cutting blade design.
as for stacked saw blades I can see the blade taking a hit and peeling like a potato

Think about using less teeth - one of the most effective disks I have seen was Plan-B's single tooth design. It took some really huge chunks out of it's opponents! The more teeth you have, the more the disk starts acting like a saw rather than a KE weapon. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

sounds good, 2 teeth then so I don't have to worry about balancing the disk

ok here is the proposed weapon design after listening to what you all think. The idea being to inflict damage while not sending to much shock into my robot, oh and also being very easy to make.
I'm under the impression that rhino can estimate what an item will weigh so my question is what would this weigh if it was 8mm thick made from bisaloy or stainless steel and max diameter of 250mm centre whole 30mm

probably best to have another 2 supports at 90 degrees to the current ones, and put a bit of a sharper tooth to the disk unless the points is to reduce the hit? _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

Just followed the rough tooth angle of what Neweyn had in his paint diagram... I think it would be alright with only 2 x 30mm wide supports to the inside part. Less weight too... _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

The problem with that disk is the the teeth are in-grown and slope backwards; they will certainly save the fan motor but they won't inflict any damage either. You would get better results by making a more aggressive disk and leaving the belt a little loose so slips and protects the motor more. From the experience of those motors in Plan-B, they are pretty tough and will not break easily if protected by a belt. The rest of the bot might have problems from big impacts, but if you were planning to rebuild the frame with better steel then you shouldn't have too many problems. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion
