yaknow your only using the verry center of those images.
you could cut 1/3rd off them and just loose grey ;-P

probbly weld fully then mount.
that way all the bendings done and can be beaten into submission before you put the "fragile" bits in

You have alot of long unprotected things that with a large force (spinner attack) will = a massive torque that you (the structure) maybe can't handle. = not good . Maybe it's hard to do it another way...

I would tack it togther set everthing up tempoary ie motors actuator arm make sure the speed controlers and bateries etc will fit in .then move the actuator with a low voltage and make sure it goes through its arc with out jambing or interfeering with any thing when all is well weld it up makeing sure that nothing warps out of place while doing it .

@ Johan --Glen is building a Light weight at the moment it is a non spinner class in Australia as our arena's arent u to handeling higher ke spinners than featherweights so he will be safe for the moment ..

yes there is no spinners thankfully lol, when i get a full set of batteries for it thatll dump 1kg from the design and there is 3kg spare so i should be able to unload 4kg of extra armour when spinners come round

on another note i played with the armour shape and position to get abit more weight from it. will post a pic tonight

finally construction begins. woohoo

whilst cutting out courtneys bit of steel i took the opportunity too cut out the weapon shaft for the crusher. its 16mm diameter stainless. the bearings wont fit on it just yet so i will have to sand paper them down tommorow to make them fit. itll be slow lol... heres a pic of it with a scooter shaft. it had better hold...



ive also started making the 40 cell packs for it too. slow progress on that front so itll take a few days to get those done. was going to cut out the jaws too but didnt have enough metal... time for another dumpster run.

and im thinking ill go back to scooter wheels to save a bit of trouble as they fit on the shafts just fine. if anyones selling a pair let me know

little work on hyzer after having a bit of a chat with courtney for the day (the secret weapon is insane )

i got the POP layed out on the ground and its not really as big as i was thinking. here it is.




and the shaft was slightly too big at 15.90mm and the bearings at 15.88mm putting the shaft in the freezer and heating the bearings didnt work so i took the bench grinder to the shaft and perfection!!



i also got another pack of 1.3ah nicads for free in perfect condition so plenty of batteries for this robot now

i went out and started the drive plates too. 3mm steel, 120x 65mm and they have the scooter motor and then one part of the axle bolt onto it. this will get welded into the robot.

and better yet i finally got the pulleys off the scooters! the trick seems to be as aaron says, to get a ton of heat into the thing really quick, so i jammed the flange on the pulley into the bench grinder quickly belted it with a hammer and centerpunch and hey presto i got my two scooter motors ready for modification

Looking good, what are those wheels from?

there racing treads off an rc car, they fit perfect over a red wheel i just never really did anything with them. there stand ins for now, im going to use the standard scooter wheels in the end.

and with the motor plates done! and the actuator in its approximate position.



tommorow ill do the inner plates and do a little on raiden

well i went out to bunnings to get the box section and true to form they ran out of the size i needed but i did get the welding wire and some other things like the huge bolts that will mount the actuator to the robot and jaw.



the actuator looks bent in the photo for some reason.. hehe you can also see its new wheels.



$8 from bunnings, metal hub solid tread 125mm diameter. should do nicely. i got them mainly because of the 3 bolts so mounting a sprocket should be nice and easy. i need to go get more bolts as the specified 1/2" bearing ID diameter is a complete lie lol. may need to revise the motor mount plates somewhat too to get them to have enough ground clearance but none the less.
