Had an interesting day today, finished stripping the drills ad decided to test the motors and batts. sparked a few times, then smoke started coming out of my battery pack. i pulled them outand thge connector on the top front* one was bubling. I started freaking out; i was like "SHIT, SHIT, MY BATTERYS ARE ON FIRE, SHIT!!!" i put them outside and left it for the night.

he was refering to the battrey pack that in your word "caught fire" those batterys are now stuffed you will need new ones. besides having a few spairs around is handy and it also means that when something like what has happened to you happens again youll be ready to replace stuff

keep up the bulding not sure if one scooter motor will be any good to you for drive .i think the speed controler would also need to much moding for r/c if you are in NSW chack out some of the drill triget type controlers that Jeff makes also the planers had a mold thing for a slightyl different triger controler .you might ask if Jake has any of those left .I used to make a few of them up of my own deshighn but dont have any left at the moment .

If they are properly set up they are much better than straight servo micro switching as they give you speed control also .

If you wanted, you can use one 100w for a drive and two servo's hooked up to castors for steering, like andre the snail had. Highly unrecommended though.
With the radio, just keep scanning ebay... Smile

The scooter speed controllers will be hard to use on a bot - the reverse is a seperate switch and there is no RC interface so you will need to operate the throttle control and reverse switch with a servo. That's not impossible, but for $99 I don't think its worth the effort compared to using drill triggers or servo switching.
