Schmackhed was entirely done with a stick welder, and they are great to learn with. Besides being cheap and easy to use, you can get a stick welder in a lot of confined spaces that a Mig or a Tig won't quite fit into.

Just remember to pick yourself up a leather welding apron and some decent gloves.... Welder Tan is a bitch Embarassed

Lol. Well you won't find steel much tougher then those plough disc, Schmackhed and Offset showed that. Having people not whinge about it being a wedge, that's down to how much they respect your efforts. Razz

Steal the Farm Steel and have some fun cutting, shaping and welding the legendary armour. Wink

There really hasn't been enough robot talk on this forum lately... Laughing
Anyway, I went out to Mascot yesterday and Mascot steel to grab some offcuts. They charge $1 per KG of odd shapes, but they really try to rip you off for sheets! Anyway in the end I got a small sheet that cost $9, and saw they sold belts. I grabbed one and that only ended up being $2.50!? Talk about f*cked up pricing! Laughing
Anyway the moral of the story is... snakmasheens got a brand new belt, and it spins harder than ever... I love how the polycarb top reverberates so much hehe. Enjoy!

Testing vid from today. Me and Grassy were standing behind a metal mesh when we did this and were wearing safety glasses so were quite safe. Spins hard now. Very Happy
Seems i've had the same problem with one drive like at wacky races though, those motors get loose very fast on the DSE drill gearboxes and they loose all their force as the clutch kicks in, I might locktite them in place this time. Confused

Shocked Snak Masheen won today!
EVENT REPORT:
Today was awesome, probably the best possible way to kick off the first event of the year. Although a few of the veterans were missing, the sheer number of new people and bots made up for it! Razz It was great to meet them all.
MY fights:

Snak Masheen vs Plan G
The planners hadn't fancied their changes with their drum against the blade on SM so armoured up Plan G with steel and their "jolt killer" wedge. However shortly into the match they had problems, and only two small hits were landed on Plan G's side before it was all over! SM wins!

Snak Masheen vs Monolith
Monolith is a huge ground scraping wedge bot, which was fairly hard to fight! No matter my attempts to get around to the side, Mitch could turn around to face the wedge to my blade. They ran into problems however and it died during the match, with SM winning from a KO. Right at the end of the match one of my drive motors started smoking (probably from pushing monolith around so much!) but I caught it just in time so the motor still works, any longer and it'd have been gooone.

Snak Masheen vs Razor Back
Razorback was Jason's bot, and was a pretty damn solidly built brick with a cool hinging spike/wedge thing at the back. I tried to get a fair few hits in, however not too far in his spikes got into my belt and derailed it, leaving the robot weaponless. A few pushes around also Knocked out my reciever aerial so I lost tonnes of range. The fight then proceeded to get VERY boring as I refused to drive to where Razorback was in the rear left of the arena due to my crap range, and Razorback's batteries being so dead that it couldn't overcome the friction of its four wheels to turn! Eventualy it became so dead that I think it counted as a KO, but might be wrong.

Snak Masheen vs Cyborg
Cyborg was Dylon and his friends' robot, coming all the way from New Castle just for the event! It was a awesome little first robot, but being only 7.2v with no weapons and a thin metal shell, it also weighed hardly anything. It eventualy got tossed onto its side after a bit of mangling, but they got its shell back into shape within 10minutes after!

Snak Masheen vs Sorry
The final. Chris had heaps of trouble getting Sorry ready to go before the fight, but managed to get it going. I managed to get a fair few hits onto it, as well as a weapon to weapon hit which didn't seem to do much to either robot. At one point sorry's reciever battery came loose and fell out, resulting in sorry turning in a circle with weapon on, but no control! Its weapon was run into he wall and Chris managed to sort it out.

The rumble was total chaos, and only the video can satisfy that.

Twisted Evil

All in all, a great day! Although what a scorcher!? Cool

*dusts off old thread*

Yes well SM has had a fairly major overhaul for next event. Some of the new features (or some of the features it SHOULD have) are:
>Lightened frame: SM was right on the limit already and due to recent additions I had to lose some weight, seemed to go ok.
>Bigger weapon motor: Not exactly planned, but couldn't find the thinner Nichi Rah fan motors snak masheen usualy runs, so got the larger ones as seen in Kang. More powa!
>Better and more reliable batteries: Should be getting a total overhaul and all the tops will be dremmeled for a way better join.
>Larger screws all around, one was mangled with a 45degree bend!
>Electronics have been given a once over, and found one of the gearboxes had a worryingly loose motor, which I tightened.
>Due to my PS not being able to cope with two GWS chargers at once, i've got another so can now run both chargers at a higher amperage = faster battery charging (so I don't hold up everyone this time!).

Very Happy Looking foward to tearing into some new and old opponents next event! The trophy is mine... MINE!!!! Twisted Evil

... Laughing
