yes id be more than happy to mig anything up, i just need to pick up some more welding wire as that stuff runs out really quickly lol.
yeah the bars that connect the drill cells are really shoddy. when i got the nimhs from jeff they had the same thing and would melt through the heatshrink. you can try resoldering them with 12 gauage wire in its place and it works great!

Thanks Glen.
It might be a while off yet, still trying to figure out if the design I have is feasible or not, or whether it should be a lightweight.
I did think about using some 12g wire. But my crappy soldering will probably melt the batteries or something.
What kind of knowledge has come out concerning steel as armour. As you all know I'm a tyre kind of guy. But I have noted different types of steel used. I can remember bots using angled steel to form a box shape and with the same on top as well. There have also been square tubing. And now theres solid sheet steel.
Is there any thoughts from the builders who have used varying types about which they liked and why?

square tubing seems to be the ultimate sort of design, nothing would ever really get through it because its so thick on either side with a gap between it and its not going to bend too quick because of its shape. its just stupidly heavy.
some make box section welded frames with thin steel on over that, not going to bend too quick and lets you have a huge robot with air armour. youll probably replace it often but it wouldnt get damaged that much internally.
i like the welded sheet just because its the smallest, lightest and when angled seems to work fine. just need harder grades of steel really. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

You mean you're not happy with the hardness of Cobra's steel?

i could always go with a bit more hardness its working fine now, its just that there *is* a stronger harder grade so therefore i *must* use it _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

Well its been a while since I updated this build thread....
Due to the last event being a bit of a write off, I haven't really done too much. Basically the steel top plate is all done. The Pintara motor is mounted the most securely its ever been. The saw blades are drilled out, I now have a steel tooth and a tungsten tooth ready to go.
The motors and wheels are all bolted in. The wheels are a bit wonky, but drive power isn't what I was aiming for.
Left to do is just make the controls, and wire it up. Probably another 2-3 days work given how its going.
Then I'll probably slap together phase 2 of my spinner concepts.
Heres what it looks like atm
actually its changed since when this was taken. But you get the idea.

EDIT: actualy , how did you cut the tire? _________________ ( •_•)

hmm. well a bit of jigsawing, and a bit of wirecutters or multisnips.
Its actually a bit of a bugger really. So is drilling into it, as it has its own self-healing ability to close in on itself once you drill it, so you've got to drill bigger than you want.
Tyre eh? What are you going to do with yours?

Well its been a while since I posted in the build thread. Probably coz its been a while since I picked up the bot.
Well Treadware is stronger in all respects. Stronger frame, mounting, controls, bigger batteries. Not sure how well the circ saw blade will do against most bots at robowars but at least there will be sparks that should give some points in my favour.
Treadware is also now invertable, thus reducing possible elimination from spinners. All in all for those interstaters that haven't seen Treadware its similar concept to retread but with stronger and smaller construction.
Treadware will also be trialling a new weapon this weekend and also shock test all the new controls.
