Twisted Constructions - Qld

I have started the rebuild of BudgetBot. The weapon will now be spun by a 300psi compressor motor. The weapon and motor has a mount an I still have the wheels mounted from first frame but there still two separate peices. I have the design worked out and I hope to get some more done tomorrow.

Well holidays coming up so time to try and finish this robot.

I am going to buy a PIC axe and make up a relay board. Have some chopping boards for armour. Just need to put it all together and make stuff fit inside the frame.

BudgetBot was in a sort of semi-finished state at MM4 and ended up in two peices with one of the axe heads cut off.

I have fixed the frame it broke because it never got welded properly. The axe was cut clean off. Just shows how much power the spinners have.

Need to make some new axes. The will be sprung so that they sit at 180 degrees from each other to make it easier to spin up and will have a 10 or 12mm stainless steel shaft so even annihalation won't be able to cut through them.

Back to work.

I actually cut through the box section in 2 different places before the third cut took the hammer clean off Cool Not bad for 3 slices in 0.2sec Wink

We are still yet to have our grudge match from MM3. The melee isn't counted as there were other robots in there too.

Till next time Wink

I have some new blades. Lets see them cut through a 10mm stainless steel rod. Now just needs some better speed controllers and better armour.

Well since no one else is saying much while there at robowars i thought i'd write an update on how budget bot is going. I have repaired most of the damage from MM4 which was thanks to annihalation. The bars have been replace with the 10mm stainless steel rod which should be almost impossible even for annihalation to cut through.

I bought an IBC and have got the replacement AUX chip so it should all work.

I am thinking about changing the swinging axes for MM5 but am not sure whether this will be possible and wreck the image of budget bot. Also since i have bought the IBC i think it might be time for a name change.

Anyway it will be running in some form for MM5.

Well i have decided to change my team name as there aren't two of of us anymore its becoming a family affair with everyone involved i will also give updates on all of our robots.

If anyone has any problems with then name let me know and i'll think of something different

Anyway i have been working all day for the past 3 days on our robots.

Here's a video of the robots at the start of construction
http://www.toowoombatanks.com.au/videos/construction.wmv

Robots ATM

Budget Bot V2 - remains as is after repairs from MM4 needs armour and mounts for radio gear and batteries.

Evil Spike 2 - Just about driving needs a few wires hooked up and its spikes welded on. Since MM4 it has gotten scooter motors as drives and a better controller.

The Same Name - New robot 1000 x 120 x 150. Very long. Has concrete cutting disc spinning at ~500 - 1000 rpm depending on voltage used. Has wheels and frame and weapon is mounted but still undergoing testing.

The Beast - New Robot originally built into a stainless steel mixing bowl. Powered by drill batteries at 14.4 volts. It has 2 packs in parallel. The robots was very small only about 200mm high with a footprint of a cirle with 400mm diam. Then i sort of went and welded two bars with spikes on it about 600mm long. It is the only robot which i have finished. It weights in at around 7kg.

(Unnamed as of yet) - New Robot. Haven't decied on a name as of yet. It has a bike wheel which is spun by a plane starter motor. The starter has a scooter wheel on it and is used as a friction drive on the rim. The robot is driving but needs blades for spiner and armour. I hope to get a long runtime out of this one as it has a 10amp/hr battery. Atm it weighs 9kg without armour or blades.

Will be back with more video and updates tomorrow hopefully.

That is a production line. You are pumping them out like Team Vertex.

Looks good. I'm mainly interested in the bike wheel spinner as it sounds familure.
How are you going to attach the teeth to the wheel? With the friction drive you need one side of the rim as smooth as possible so you can't have the bolts through that side, but you'll already know that. I found that if you only have the bolts running through the base of the channel in the rim so the bolts are facing towards the axis you tend to loose teeth as the bolts get pulled through the rim on impact. Bolting through the side of the rim would work 10 times better, but you could only do it through one side. Maybe some L-shaped teeth that bolt through the base of the rim and through the side. I was going to try it with Adversary but I hadn't attached the teeth before arriving at MM4 and had to borrow Andrew's drill to do it.
With the big wheel on the scooter it'll be faster then The Aggerssor friction driven wheel was. I was proberbly lucky to hit 1000rpm when I went to Marayong 4.

Yes well the bike wheel and friction drive ideas i will have to admit were sorta borrowed (payback for the drill spinner). The bike wheel is going to have mower blades on it. They will have a bolt welded to the inside of the bike wheel. I am not quites sure how it will be done but i may need to reinforce it.

Well
The Beast is Complete and has been sitting in its corner for a while.

Evil Spike to needs another relay cus i blew it up on 24v. Not meant to run 24v welded the contacts good and proper. But other than that good to go.

The Same Name will not be completed for this battle because Gerard cannot attend to drive his bot. But we have modified the blade after some less than satisfactory testing. Have made drill speed controllers and they should work but have not been wired. I think it will be

BBv2 will work but as of yet has not been tested and still needs some armour and mounts.

Chopper is nearly done needs one more drill for the self righter and one more armour plate.

We'll see how they go on sunday.
