Shock Mounting
I've been designing ways to shock mount my internal components from an external shell. The two surfaces are parallel, needs to have adjustable height and of coarse the shock absorption is done with rubber.
I have come up with 2 or 3 different ideas, but I'm have trouble designing it so the bottom plate doesn't have extrusions, or @ least very low(Out of the way providing a smooth finish for the bottom of the robot).
I am sure everyone would have ideas for this and input would be appreciated.
Cheers, Trent. _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

Rat’s drive assembly [4 drills, 2 battery packs and associated structure] is rubber shock mounted to the shell, Inspector General’s 2 drill drives are set up using the same technique as does Maestro.
The weapon assemblies in Bender and Ultidrum are shock mounted, as is Reboot’s rear wedge.
All these examples boil down to bolts going through oversize holes with rubber in between.
I would need a bit more of an idea of your bot to give any advice but personally I think energy-absorbing features are good idea.

I surround my radio gear and the like with foam rubber and put them in a polycarbonate box. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

mmm could be a little out of topic but anyways...
has anyone had experience with using velcro straps to hold batteries in?
and just strapping them up to a foam-laiden battery tray should be good enough i presume? _________________ http://au.youtube.com/user/crustydemonsully

We use velcro for batteries in a few of our bots. Works fine. _________________ Satisfaction is proportional to effort and results.

velcro if used right works good (at my work some seat pans r held in with velcro on elec wheelchairs so its tough stuff)
if ur a lil worried theres always hose clamps or some form of bolt and plate method where the plate clamps down on top of batteries, if not some form of a padded box should work _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

i have some reels of industrial strength velcro here if you want to buy some. its surprisingly effective at hair removal also
on demon and cobra and every other robot since ive used SLAs the batterys just sit inside a little bay and the lid stops them falling out. since ive started using coke bottle heatshrink i dont even use foam anymore. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts
