I don't know... you might be ok running them off the 70A relays... If not there are larger ones, but they also involve a huge leap in the price department, as well as being hard to find... Confused

take a look at the solid state relays.
heck you could probbly drive them with micro switches.

hmmm i wonder if you can PWM them

max switching time is .5ms so thats 2000 transitions a second?
so you could have a frequency of 200hz or so with 10 points of resolution... Ick!

though at $120 per h bridge... not so nifty for only 100A

Do you think I could make a speed controller with MOSFETS? I have seen it done but I wasn't quite sure it was that easy.

These motors are way to fast on full power Laughing

I wouldn't attempt it... even people skilled with electronics have trouble. Your best option is to buy something or make one of the systems suggested.

It depends on what you mean by "A Speed Controller"

Have a read of the articles linked to from this Wiki Page
http://www.robowars.org/wikka/EscHomeMade

If your head starts to spin after a few paragraphs, forget it.

Mosfets are deceptively simple little devices.. Lightly loaded, they're easy to work with, like building a robot to carry the newspaper around the house with tiny little motors.

But, start Flogging them hard (like Combat Bots do, asking them to deal with 50+ amps and the occasional stall/short while pushing another Bot) and a whole swag of black-magic electronics suddenly becomes necessary to keep the magic smoke inside.

Building your own *combat-capable* controller is a major undertaking and will *not* save you money. You cant get the parts at the prices that manufacturers can with bulk-purchasing, and it only takes 1 simple mistake to generate $50-$100 worth of magic smoke.

Speed (Power) costs money, how fast do you want to go ? Wink

If you're really tight on $ but have time to fiddle, Talk to Andrew (Totally Recycled) about his Drill-Trigger controllers

cool thanks for the replys Smile

I was having trouble sorting out these speed controllers (hardest part of the hole job I think) because these motors I'm talking about such heaps and heaps of juice.
They are desinged to carry people arount so they need to be pritty well built (and powerful) and that is why I'll probably need a good speed controler. I was looking at the ones from oatly electronics but I'm not sure they will be good enough.

So I'll keep looking around and I might even try to get some info from the local scooter shop

i dont think the oatley ones would be counted as "good"
IBC is budget for a featherweight
then you have the sidewinder that should probbly not blow up
then perhaps an RS80D
then go say some victor 885's
then 4QD stuff

The oatley ones didnt work full stop and got butchered into relay controllers for singularity. and even then only just worked xD. was truly a setup of the most macgyver kind.

Just a quick Question,Do you think I'd be able to use a Robowars IBC for my two wheelchair motors without blowing it up??

Probably, I cant imagine them drawing all that much, as wheelchair motors are usually a cold wind to preserve battery life. Buy or borrow a clamp meter, put it on high hold and stall the motor for a few seconds, its its less than say 60-70 A, id say your pretty safe. Wheelchair motors generally have some sort of nominal power mark on them that would give you a decent indication (less than 30-40A continuous is good) too.
Failing that your up for an RS80D / Sidewinder.
