Eleanor had it's first tasted of cobat today and I believe it won all its 1v1 battles 3 or 4 of them. The lack of traction in the arena gave me a fear reduction in speed from what I'm used to from testing. I think on an entertainment level it's matches were fair. In hindsight there were only 3 out of the 4 arena walls I should have used for ramming opponents, one I would only just get wedged under which is lame. I think I should have targeted those 3 walls only and slammed opponents into them as hard as possible, I think I really only did this once or twice. I did alright for my first go @ it anyway and the pneumatics are still to come also.
I looked @ a new ali base plate but it adds to much weight, so I will replace it with a new ploycarb one and look @ why it cracked and what get be done about it.
500 grams is another point of focus in the build of Eleanor, as this is the amount of weight need to be reduced to fit the pneumatics in. _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

I don't know about your polycarb, but I find with the right light you can see "stress lines" in the plastic. Generaly i'd think the darker colours are bad? I'm no pro in that field but did observe the effect a few times working with thinner polycarb. Nice work for your first event! _________________ ( •_•)

if you want to save that plate you can just drill two small holes at either ends of the splits if they havent propogated all the way to the edges.. and just screw some thin aluminium around the edges to stop it happening again without having to redo the entire base out of ali.
probably stating the obvious too you but make sure every corner is rounded, every edge is deburred and every hole countersunk _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

No stress only cracks. I think I now know how it happened and now I just need to work a fix . _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

if you screwed the dewalts in at the bottom it would probably stop the two upright parts flexing around so much _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

Splits are to the edge, all corners rounded. The ploy will put up with massive hits horizontally, but the sharp hit it got from landing upside-down after good air-time/spins jard the ploy from the mounts to the inside bearing mount. And maybe that outside bearing mount(without a connection to the shell) tried to force its way through the ground/down, causing the cracks. I believe the problem was outside the inside bearing mount. _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

No worries @ all. Because of the lack of traction they only got a little warm, testing was far harder on them. Hence they only needed a top up charge. I will charge them tomorrow and check the balancing, but I would be very surprised if they weren't perfectly balanced.
Aaron was asking me about voltage drop with them, but I didn't know how to test for that without comparing them with a set of Nicads in the bot. _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

It all makes sense now . The answers to fixing Eleanors little issues are the weight of the shell, allowing extra weight for the pneumatics and the base plate. The original design was always to use 3.25mm hardox and 4mm mild steel was used instead as a trial before spending the time and money on the hardox. Changing to hardox before robowars will be a hard task, but once the shops open again I will see what I can do.
Aaron any ideas/tips on hardox supply?
A hardox shell would be about 18% lighter saving about 1.5kg _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.

Aaron's been "talking" about his hardox for ages, but is yet to have any, it seems like you have to buy a pretty large sheet if they're going to sell any to you.
I say maybe mill down the insides if possible? You could keep the key areas strong but remove material from the less needed places. _________________ ( •_•)

Where did you buy your pulleys and belts? What do they weigh? _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems
