another way is to monitor the current draw.

When the wheel start to slip the current draw will decrease.

and the opposite for monitoring the wheel speed.

Wheel speed will have a sudden increase

Leaks leaks leaks, when will they end. Main problem I have is the PVC buffer, its so soft I keep stuffing the threads in it. The next version will have to have a ali buffer.
New base plate made(although I might have to make another again Confused ). Pneumatics mounting all done(but it looks like I have to make another buffer tank). Various other things done and fixed. Hooked up the Leds in the ram piston, with a fuse as well(just in case of a short). I think it looks neat now with the light when the bots going. Heres a pic of from the bottom: http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e275/trentellis/IMG_0089.jpg

as your making a new buffer tank you could try and put nuts on the ends of the fittings before installing the end caps.

I would use some ruber washers as well to help seal to hole.

Just worked out in testing here @ home I could have 'DOUBLED' my speed with the flick of a switch, once I had a opponent(allowing better traction due to increased weight) on the wedge. Which would have created far better slams into arena walls. darn.

Thanks for the tips Ajax, I tried that a couple of buffer tanks ago. It didn't work that time because of the very small ID of the tube. A new buffer tank has been made and is still drying, and I will test it tonight. If it works great, I will weigh the bot and check its under weight. If it doesn't work, I will leave the pneumatics until after Robowars.

Found out after some harsh testing that the Dewalt motor brush mounts can pop out. I guessing some of the Dewalt owners have found this out already and it looks like maybe a zip-tie or something maybe a fix.

Traction control: Couldn't it be done with a bit of on-board processing monitoring the wheel speed(shaft encoders), current draw and the PWM signal?

Just a couple of thoughts on 4WD bots

I would like to point out that Bots like for instance Singularity and Elanore have a fundamental traction problem built in that they are SKID STEER BOTS.

To travel in anything other than a perfectly straight line they must slip, scrub, spin their wheels in relation to the arena surface.

Why do you think Razor had those funny back wheels?

Singularity has a really long wheelbase and a very ridged box frame so anything less than perfectly flat surface and one or more wheels wont to spin.
Combine that with separate motors on each wheel compared to Elanore and getting the power to the ground is not as easy as it seems.

You would think that the more wheels the better, combine diffs, Ackerman steering and suspension and it might be.

for the buffer tank, try this.

Over sized steel washers made into sets.

one curved to the shape of the inside of the tank, the other curved to the shape of the outside of the tank.

Hole needs to be tight fitting.

then use undersized rubber washer as well.

place outside washer on fitting, then rubber washer, place fitting in tank hole, inside washer, then nut. tighten.

That has always worked for me.

Sometime I use a rubber washer on the inside as well.

That was a cartridge spent in that vid. I had 8 on paper and got 7, so I'm happy with that. Very Happy
