Car thread

$200 later i finally conned my sister into handing me the fiat. yay fun Very Happy

less fun is the huge piles of crap that fester within it. so i got bored and started taking it apart more or less.

wow yeah thats going to work XD. thats supposed to be the tube that connects the air filter to the carb but 40 years seemingly makes paper disentegrate! ill see if i can get a plastic one of those. would explain the wierd noises anyway..

was always curious to see what the huge red thing in the engine bay was so i unbolted that and dropped it out of the bottom (tiny rear engine bay = shitty to work on) and its quite possibly the worlds most gigantic car alarm. all 4kg of it Shocked and 125db of pure power lol. found a new center piece for my work desk anyway. gives me alot more space in the back. aka can actually fit an entire hand in there.

if anyone can read italian id really like to know what that means XD just some random black box bolted onto the rear firewall.

the tear down manual describes this ^^ as the "carburettor fan". i never knew such a thing existed? maybe someone could shed some light on what it does, id really like to know Razz

the guy at the workshop up the road tells me these are pure magnesium. they have little Mg counterweights attached to them anyway which i find to be quite novel lol. theres also michellene XAS tires on the thing which he says are pretty rare as well. accidentally backed it up over a piece of foreign steel and slashed one... and unfortunately for me the tyres are nitrogen filled so off to the tyre place tommorow. maybe i should clean up out back more XD

still shopping around for a fiat punto turbocharged engine for it. if anyone knows of any on the market im all ears Razz

that tube looks like the warm air thing in my car, when the engine is cold it sucks its air in over the exhaust manifold to heat the engine up faster, (an emmisions thing) its made out of that stuff because it gets smegging hot.
Generally the air filter is part of the carby, big round white thing. under the cover. I am doubting your sisters fiat has a pod filter installed ;->

the nitrogen tyre thing dosent really matter for anything btw, tis a big wank mainly.
If your racing or something then perhaps. otherwise your better off just using air because you will more easily keep an eye on your tyre pressures and keep them right.

Pure Magnesium is soft as anything , more so than aluminium an pure titanium. It would have to be an alloy for the wheels to survive the weight of the car.

What type of Fiat is it. A Panda? Laughing

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_X1/9

quote:
A cooling fan was added for the carburetor, which otherwise would get so hot fuel would vaporize in the float chamber, leading to fuel starvation. The exhaust system was placed below a vestigial trunk, which would get so hot that it was hazardous to place things here.

That's what the blower fan is for.

Fiat X1/9 = Go kart
Go Kart = FUN! Cool

It's very similar to the MR2 AW11, just with less stick and more problems Laughing

geez i didnt realise any sane designer would allow the engine to run that hot, guess i was wrong about that air filter line.

On the upside take up fishing, bring foil, lemon, garlic, salt and corriander, wrap fish, put in boot, drive home, dinners made.
