Well had plenty of good cadding time today. ive gone through about 6 designs and after a bit of a talk with jeff convinced myself that even though some of the designs would be way better and look tons cooler, im going for the most dead basic ugly ass robot i can make.

i already have the weapon 90% made so just need to do the frame really. ordered the Aluminium from tafe so ill get that soonish. ive got 3 changes of side panels on the way so when the 10mm ali sides get eaten i can always change them.

its all bolted construction. no time to waste getting it welded and it needs to be easiy to repair so ill make some giant steel brackets for it as well. ETA two weeks Cool

look at this sleek design. 200g overweight but nothing brushless motors cannot solve. alas too hard to make...

volvo would be proud of this Cool

got the aluminium i need so ill start the cutting and slashing on the weekend.

also have finished designing the frame and realised how geniunley hideous it will be (in that it has no actual strength and will have to get welded lol.

i still have 1.3kg of weight to toss around so its looking good at the moment. very small and the distance between the wheels and drum is absolutely minimal so i can overcome the steering issues it will no doubt have.

only thing that remains is the battery mounts. excellent.

held off cutting the aluminium which has been a good thing as i found my cads for whatever reason had the scooter motors at a far larger diameter than they actually are... same with the andrew drills.

so in light of that ive hacked 10mm off the top and bottom of the chassis and removed a ton of internal framework (now down to 0 pieces Razz ).

so far the entire frame is about 3kg in weight, the drum at 5 and motor at 1.1 so all in all with everything in should be looking at 12.5kg or so. leaving some head room for additions that will no doubt have to be made.

there will be some power building this weekend Razz

went out to put an alarm in this morning at a friends place which ate into a good bit of building time but in about an hour managed to cut the bearing blocks cut to size and cut shape and drill the motor mount out.

had to extend the chassis about 20mm as i couldnt work out a way to shorten this chain without any fancy tools. (it has a master link so was beginning to think i could just smash one pin out with a hammer and center punch?.. just need to get one link out) if i can do that i can shorten things right up.

also modded the IBC. im resoldering the wires on to be the right length as they are all hacked apart (yay for noodle wire).

tried smashing the tooth back into shape with the 3kg sledge hammer bit it wouldnt move Confused but it seemed really balanced last time so im just leaving it hehe.

this thing spins soo hard. those vic bots dont stand a chance Very Happy

grind the end of the pins that you need to remove to get rid of riveted bit then punch them out holding the other link on a vice with a gap to surport it and let the other link drop out .

ack! tafe sent me the wrong dimension aluminium and has shut down till the 8th Sad so an emergency trip to bunnings for some welding wire and an unfortunately expensive (Dear god paying for material sucks) piece of polycarb i may well get it somewhat completed..

all panels are cut out now Very Happy that was a rather quick. all that remains is to cut the wheel wells and drill the mounts for them. also need to cut out the slots for the hose clamps for the IBC and start wiring it all up for now. hoping to get 70 to 80% of this robot complete by tuesday.
