You get a cookie too Glen, I actually half assed the design from Crocbot and Offset.... I just wanted to build something simple, reliable and fuskin tough. Something I can drive in the arena against the biggest, baddest mofo spinners and come out not only in one piece, but still functioning... I "almost" have room for a weapon in it, but I'll design that at a later date, when I've researched the components up more and worked out the safety issues....

EDIT: To alaborate more, I don't have the time to be fixing this robot or making spare parts, I want to charge the batteries, turn the radio on and have it work. No more shit like Annihilation where it required half a rebuilt between battles Razz

Welded up the last big 15mm gap and ground most of it back when I arrived home from work. The motor mounts need about 0.5mm trimmed off them with a file to get them to fit with out hammering them in. Still waiting for Banebots package.

Will make up some battery packs tonight. I'm thinking about making 14.4v packs as 4 x 3 cell packs will fit better then 2 x 5 cell packs. Few extra volts should work nicely on increasing the speed a bit more to.

Progress

The Banebots package arrived today! Hooray, 8 x motors to use! I've decided to step up to 14.4v first up with a trial pack, and see how good the speed and pushing power is, if it's not too hard to control, I'll look at upping the voltages to 18v...

Started designing the wheels guards tonight, going to make a mock up out of cardboard first and then attempt to replicate that with the wareplating...

XD That bot's bad A$$ Aaron. Laughing
Make sure you get some sort of ball castor or something under there to get rid of friction though! Don't forget crocbot has it's stearing mech to take its weight. Very Happy

I'll be setting up a cutting board block upunder the front on a small door hinge that will have an adjuster screw in the end. that way I can fine tune the front clearance to suit my opponent.... Smile

If I have space and time, I might even rig up an active front end so I can adjust it with a 3rd channel mid battle Shocked (Okay, lets not get too far ahead of myself, get bot finished, then do extras... Rolling Eyes )

Batteries y0!

14.4v packs made. I shrinked them both with 1.25L soft drink bottles with some foam top and bottom, but it made the packs too thick to fit in the bot by 5mm Sad So I cut the bottle shrink wrap off and I'll use some 3mm cardboard on top of the cells this time, as soon as I drink more bottle... Razz

Well I've finished the two 14.4v Nicd Packs now, they look half decent with the coke bottle shrink wrap and white cardboard braid covers Cool. Just have to make up a pair of 18v packs now and I should be all good battery wise.

I also changed over the 18v motors for the 12v motors and the fancy little gear puller is fantastic... Should have bought one 2 years ago!!! Powered the Victors up for the first time since I bought them with the new packs Very Happy flashy flashy, they work!

Tomorrow should be a pretty busy day bot wise as I have to install the battery bay, drives, electronics tray and power switch. They day after I will look at putting the passive weapons attachments on and cycle all the batteries a few times...

Pictures up tomorrow, they are on the camera and I'm too lazy to go fire up the Windoze box to do it... Rolling Eyes

PSU still open with it's 4 LED's running on the 12v rails Very Happy Love the blue glowingness + 2

2 x Triton2's charging two 14.4v packs at the same time at 5.5amps and the 400Watt PSU handles it without dropping out Cool No load on the 5v rail either
