Scissorhands - team OverKill - NSW

Sissorhands

Builder : Nick Martin
Driver : Nick Martin
Class : FeatherWeight
Frame: 3/8" mm 2024 aluminium with titanium base*
Weapon : Titanium bar with tool steel blades, driven by a Mag 150 motor*
Drive : Whyachi TWR15 gearmotors
Controller : Victor 885
Batteries : CP3600 Nicad pack*

* subject to radical change

After thinking about this for quite some time, I am splitting the undercutter version of Jolt from the original and developing them in parallel. Since I couldn't come up with a clever variation on "Jolt", I am going with "Scissorhands" in reference to the NSW builder's fondness for the Rock, Paper, Sissors way of designing bots.

As already mentioned, ths photo above is the test version and is mostly built from spare parts meant for Jolt. If this works out, the production version will be WAY nastier! At the last weigh-in SH was almost 2KG under weight with just a few small parts left to add, so there will be spare weight to develop a self righting mechanism and get a heavier weapon.

Laughing Hard at work! I just recieved the last of the electronics today; a new SS reciever and a G401 gyro. There are plenty of small tasks to complete, but no major parts are missing and there are no difficult machining operations left.

Spend about 3 years learning and a heap of cash, then its easy to make your bots like this! Laughing

Yeah, plus you should have 1.6KG extra to play with now Ajax (Lil Psycho was built for the 12Kg rules IIRC)... Maybe ditch the NiMH's and go CP3600's?

Progress:
The electronics module is coming along well; the new SS reciever is mounted and it's antena is neatly positioned (must be a first for me!). The weapon switch and BEC are also mounted and the main work left is the mixer, which needs custom made leads before mounting. I also have to find a position for the gyro elswhere in the bot.

Can you put the Gyro where the IMX-1 is, and squeeze the SBEC, D-Switch and IMX-1 together to the left? It looks like you should have enough room to do that.

And center that RX Exclamation Just kiddn.

Just to let you know Nick from my experience with UHMW, it doesn't crack no, but it can "tear" like as if it's a form of thick cardboard. With all the high G's that bot will be seeing, just make sure it doesn't take much direct shock load on any small point, and keep it away from flailing robots! Laughing
*Hint* 5mm Ti over it seems to work pretty well! Laughing

All the UHMH parts are non-structural and the assembly sits between the side wall and the Mag gearbox, so its very well supported. I was as suprised as you were when the UMHW in Roadkill broke - it is not supposed to ever do that!

I would like to mount the gyro on the electronics assembly, except Glen has found that the gyro really has to be mounted on the centre line of the bot and as close as possible to the centre of rotation.
