Cyberman, only the Spectrum reciever can be placed reliably in the middle of a robot. Unless you're an expert on recievers, then you can try to get the antenna out with coax cable and simular tricks.

I used a very expensive Multiplex Commander 2020 as my first RX/TX set, and I was reasonably happy with it, but as Wazio says, it's not only the transmitter that counts into $ but also the reciever. And Multiplex is expensive. So I bought another set, The cheap Graupner X412. That full set cost as much as 1 reciever for my other set.

Now I bought, like many Dutch and German roboteers the superior Spectrum. No long antenna to amputate, no need to place the reciever in harms way, no need for external failsafes ,or crystals (can cost a few $ too-especialy because we are mandated to have at least 3 sets) and no interference.

Other big thing of the Spectrum is that you can use it about anywere on the world. The 40MHz sets in Europe have the problem that not all crystals can be used everywere. And 72/75MHZ isn't allowed at all over here.
