All up it weighs 10.2kg + another 1kg battey,
Which leaves me with 2kg of armour plating. The wood provides good general impact resistance and stops things from moving around, now I need to stop things from getting in. I don't want anyone to shoot themselves in the foot, but what is good armour against saws and the like?

steel. aluminium, wood and polycarb are too soft to restrain saws. steel is hard enough even in thin amounts to stop them somewhat. and angling the armour will help. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

I reckon I'll put some 20x20x2mm angle iron on all of the corners, I'm just not quite sure of the best way to hold it on. I'll either use bolts instead of my screws or I'll weld the frame together, locking in the batteries. Ideas?

make two angle iron frames for top and botom welded that will slip on to the mdf then use a few bolts right through the top and bottom angle iron and the whole mdf section to hold it on and to clamp the whole bot together

1mm stainless steel skin over the whole thing and use stainless rivets to hold it all together... _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

I'm also considering a sheet of rubber sandwiched between the metal and the wood. I just have too lose some weight somwhere, say about a kilo.

You could also look at replacing the layers of MDF with layers of cutting boards. Little more robust then the MDF, but still light and cheap. Big W and K Mart sell them for like $10 for 500 x 500 x 12 cutting boards. _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

That's pretty expensive. I don't know why everyone thinks cutting boards are such a cheap alternative
Besides, you were going to make some different robot to start with anyway ey? Rammers are ok, but as you could see, you get ownd by wedges easily (perhaps that's Aaron's true push ). _________________ ( •_•)
