Actually, if I hadn't shagged that gearbox against Elanor, I was going to ask for a big rumble... All the Spinners vs Schmackhed Smile You might have heard me counting the spinners out loud a few times Laughing I was really looking for a grudge match against Orbit though Sad That would have been the icying on the cake after beating Jolt.

Ok i have made my decision. I am going to go with a horizontal spinner bot. Now i know that it has weaknesses but i feel i could make one a decent one and it would teach me a lot about this sport on the way. So i'm currently designing and you will see them soon. Ok now another question. batteries. Ni-Cad or NiMH which type does the job better?

Generic answer 101 - It Depends.... There are a lot of variables that will decide which type of chemistry is suited for your needs....

ok cool well i'll figure that one out later then. some experimenting here and there perhaps. Oh and i changed the name of my bot because falcon was a cool name but my new design is more like a helicopter. So i renamed it chopper. also cos it's gonna chop up all your bots! Twisted Evil

Hilarity ensues.. Ah, dont you just love Newbie enthusiasm.. Wink

A positive attitude is good, but your comment is roughly comparable to a P-Plate driver telling Peter Brock hes gunna kick his ass all over Bathurst Razz

Some trash talking is fine, but realise you are up against some pretty experienced competitors and you will find reality far less bruising when you smack hard into it if you're more realistic about your expectations for your first bot.

Fortunately, these same people who you have to compete against will also help you improve (and repair) your bot afterwards, if you're nice to them. Cool

I've heard that one before Wink

NiCD's are generally what most of the big bang spinners use, because they can source more amps continously and higher peaks as well. The common NiCD's used in bots are Sanyo CP2400SCR (1.2v 2400mAh Cells, good for 50amp continous and 80 amp peaks) or the CP3600SCR (1.2v 3600mAh, goodfor 80 amp continous and around 100-120amp peaks).

The CP2400's are 60gram per cell, while the CP3600's are 80gram per cell. If you have a look into the RoboWars Wiki you'll find a lot of information, that might answer some of your questions Smile

EDIT: Brett beat me to the newcomer enthusiasm speech Razz

Also. what was I thinking, trying to link someone to the wiki with img tags :S

I found @ robowars that the 2400's *really* don't like high current draws... During the match against spyder, i'm sure most noticed how the blade lacked a lot of power. The packs were almost melting apart the duct tape after that match and were too hot to touch for ages! Shocked
In comparison the larger 3600 cells are really proven and can take almost anything you throw at them. Smile

Strange, I've run only 2400's in most of my bots and they do just fine.

It depends on what you're sustained current drain is going to be. If you're asking for 100amps+ continuously, then I'd agree the 3600's are a better bet, but for a 2WD-drill bot with a moderate weapon motor (24v EVs excluded - they can suck 200 amps on their own) I think 2400's are a good size.

And the 3600's are nearly twice the price !

mmm it does look kind of like it but the shell on mine will be a bit stronger than that due to it's design. Because mine has triangle sheets instead of quadrilateral ones. So more sheets means more frame which means more support. Also i hope mine has a better paint job than that!

Laughing I wonder how cut the sponsers would have been when the plate with their companies name on it got torn off by the robot they were sponsering XD.
Personaly I think you could do a better bot than that... it's complex, not invertable and won't really do too well unless you can get a really powerfull weapon motor going.
