It depends on who you're trying to impress with your website.

If you want to put the minimum amount of effort to reach the maximum amount of uneducated users and you still want to use non-standard bells and whistles that are only supported by IE then your approach makes sense.

If you want to impress computer literate people and show that you care about not living in a world where Microsoft owns everything and are willing to put a bit more effort into making sure that doesnt happen then making your site cross browser compatible is worthwhile.

Why shouldnt Microsoft own everything and be the setter of standards ? Read their company history, their treatment of any competitors, anti-trust violations, their backstabbing of anyone who has supported or done deals with them and you will begin to understand why using their standards is equivalent to putting a pair of handcuffs on yourself and giving them the key.

Plus, I can assure you, that in my experience as a freelance computer tech, Internet Explorer is one of the top-5 ways to let someones CrudWare into your computer. Run a better browser and the majority of that problem goes away.

Your site though.. Wink

Opera & Firefawx for me...

Internet Exploder is like sticking a sign on your front lawn with "Crap here!" written on it... I use Opera on my Windows box, Firefox on my Linux box and run FirefoxPortable on my USB flash...

I have not found one users that I have introduced to Firefox or Opera complain about it after a week, and they notice the lack of pop ups and spyware invading their pc's... Plus the wicked features like RSS and Mouse Gestures just pwn IE7 even more...

Thats cool. You dont have to do anything about it.

Just dont complain about the time wasted or the repair bill when your system needs a complete reinstall from being drowned in malware, or the torrents of spam in your email box being sent from the thousands of other botnet-infected computers out there owned by users who dont care either.
