There was probably a planned scene where Dekard gets briefed on Rachel; they dropped many short scenes to cut costs due to studio pressure. It might lso have been a general guess - Tyrell has told Dekard that Rachel has implanted memories from his niece, so Dekard knows that Rachel's spider story is a fake 'cause itsmore than a few years old.

There are other lapses due to dropped scenes; there is no way for Roy to know that Leon and Zhora are dead, yet he tells Pris "There's only 2 of us now". There was another scene where he hacks into the cop's computer and reads the info. Somehow the producers forgot the hacking scene had been written out.

Hey, can you tell I re-read the book yet??? Laughing

Good call Andrew.. but I moved it to off-topic instead of General Chatter, since its not very Robot-Related..

So everyone feel free to continue to chat away about whatever you like in here now its in the off-topic section.

George, if you'd still like your "Team Name Change" thread to exist in the announcements section, just create another thread in there, and I'll lock it so people cant fill it up with more interesting but irrelevant chat.

mmm just got through having a flick over some FAQ pages and read the original blade runner book.

seriously interesting shiz there, for example...

Tyrell was supposed to be a replicant in the original... when Roy kills the replicant one he gets sebastion to lead him to where the original Tyrell is (whos is dead..)

and one little thing i was also pondering after hearing of it in one of the faq things is that are they suggesting that deckard is also part of the NEXUS 6 invasion?

because think of it, at the start they say there where *6* replicants, 3 male and 3 female. youve got zhora and pris as 2 females and roy and leon as the 2 males... they say one got killed trying to get into the Tyrell corporation so it could possibly be that deckard is the remaining 1 person...... what you people think?

Ah, the missing replicant problem. They simply screwed up due to the ever changing script and budget pressure from the studio. The 6th replicant was supposed to be a woman called Mary.

They fixed it by voicing over Bryant's dialogue where he briefs Deckard on the situation; he says two replicants were fried breaking into the Tyrell HQ. Ridley Scott didn't like the obvious lip sync problem and changed the number of fried replicants back to one and lived with the discrepancy. In early scripts, the fried replicant was called Holden, same as the initial Bladerunner who was shot - kinda confusing?

There are several intentional hints that Deckard is a replicant: Its briefly in the original book, where Deckard is arrested by a bogus investigor who thinks he is an android. All replicant's eyes glow (even the owl in Tyrell's office) and you see Deckard's eyes glowing in his apartment's kitchen. Another possible hint is at the end where Gaff congratulates Deckard with "you've done a man's job, sir" I always took that to mean Gaff saying the Deckard exceeded his replicant abilities and did a human's job.

In the director's cut there is the suggestion that the unicorn is an implanted memory like Rachel's spider story. It's reinforced when Gaff leaves an origami unicorn at Deckard's apartment, suggesting he knows what memories Deckard has. Its always just hints, as Ridley wanted the audience to go away thinking about it.

Apparently, the various writers, Ridley, and Harrison Ford all had different ideas about this. Harrrison hated it as he thought the audience needed a hero to cheer for. Ridley loved the concept. The original writer (Hampton Fancher) started the idea and most of the later writers went along with it.

holden ey?

i know in the book blade runner was based on im reading theres an extra two replicants, Mary, and Hodge.

as for the part about the "youve done a mans job sir" they cut that out too apparently after reading the book. it was supposed to be "youve done a mans job sir, but are you a man? its hard to tell these days" or something along those lines.

noticed as well they hacked a big section out of the movie that was in the book that totally didnt make sense (when in the movie..)

when pris and roy are talking and she says "where stupid and where going to die", roys actually talking about how he hacked into the police computer and the cops found out about it and he could no longer track what the cops where doing so she said it...

mmmmmm damn ive got you know smart assed english people eh eh eh
