Yr 10 geography project "communities" HELP NEEDED!

Hello! As many of you may know, in yr 10 you have to do an assigment on "australian communities" (well, i do). I chose the NSW robot building community naturaly. I was wondering if you NSW guys could help me out!(i REALLY need it) Very Happy
1. Could someone give me a brief history of NSW robot building? or did it only start once jeffs arena was built?
2. I have to list whether the construction of the marayong battle arena was a positive or negitive change (and it's positive), but do your neighbors complain Jeff? Very Happy

I also have to ask afew people a questionare i made about it, so if you could just pm me that your from nsw (i know most of you i think Smile ), and i'll send it to ya (it's only 4 questions!).

Lol, by the way, most kids have to go onto the street and ask random people, so i've got it alittle easier! If you could do it fairly soon that would be great, i've only got this week to do it!

Shocked

You just gotta hate school... Crying or Very sad no time for robots! Crying or Very sad

Hi Angus, send me your questionair, I`ll be happy to add as much as I can.

From my perspective, Robot Wars in Austrailia was rare at the time of the UKs tv show. Some builders, but no combat unless groups from universities etc. went overseas, I never did see very much of Battle Bots from the US.
I was building Bullants and the bullant arena; shame it was destroyed but it took up too much room!

It took me about a year before I found Australian Robot Wars on the net.
One of the first was this site, that at the time was just based in Melbourne, but I was looking for NSW. Then I found The ABBL (founders; Mark De sousa and Lachlan Myers{spelling?}) that had just changed its name from,,,? They were building and discussing, as well as a meeting at Chris` work place with Whitetip! and some Cybot! (There was was a picture of some intimidateing looking bloke; Chris! Laughing and an angry looking, big eared goof; Glen! Wink
So I asumed there wasn`t really much happening in this country. Laughing

I remember at the time, Acid test, lawn mower and Mini mower in Melbourne and a carpark meeting report from Marshal at Kilkiven in Queensland
Then there was Metal Mayhem in Andrew Adaillus` (spelling?) in his shed, an actual event! with Annihilation, Haemorage, and all the others, sorry I can`t recall them all right now but after that I thought My shed would be big enough to do that so I introduced my self and set up the original arena.

Since then we had a national event and a full year championship in NSW and from fees and donations have allowed us to upgrade the arena.

Thats about where you come into it Angus. I`m sure others will have a more thorough history if they care to tell but thats, at the moment what I remember Laughing

if my shoddy memory serves me correctly our first ever nsw meeting was at chris old work, all i had was some bad pile of parts for a failed 2kg robot and chris had whitetip, i think andrew, myself, mark, lachlan, chris, jake and russell where the ones there.

then jeff came along and had a little cardboard arena for the 2kg robots but then as you could guess they turned out to be a total dive so he hacked his garage into a battle arena and now 2.5 tons later and a couple of hundred bucks down the track we are here mwuhaha,

if you want some info on the oldest events ive got some little reports on my old website www.cobra-robotics.i8.com , im starting a proper one soon so ill have all that sort of stuff on there.

im sure i can dig up a few of the very original pictures from marayong 6 back, theres tons of them. im sure you dont remember, MITE, Plan-A , revenge of 386 and screwed Razz

thinking of it collectively australian robots as a group have gone pretty far, TV, film clips, articles, regular series and i think one of the qld events had the mayor at it Surprised

Laughing positive for sure, i mean it provided beautiful accomodation for aaron and lachlan at the annihilator and now we all have a bomb shelter should we need it Very Happy

ill have a look, theres only been 3 changes:

the pvc screen, and chicken wire front with PVC pipe and styrofoam barriers. then we stuck a new MDF wall, followed by the front polycarb screen and then the new arena came into life.

ill get some pictures of the 3 if i can.
