working on a budget...

alright dont know what got me thinking of this but yeah its piqued my intrest

lets say you only had $1500 to build yourself a pc what would you put in it (must include everything like case and psu) now the harder part. you cant go over $1500 but you cant be lower than $1400 and your not allowed to use parts that arnt freely available and you cant use parts for it that are stock priced it must be RRP. lol have fun with it btw you can use www.staticice.com for finding the best prices or a similar site/program but as i said no parts can be at stock cost they have to be RRP in another words you cant call in favors from friends

i wanna see what ya's come up with lol still working on mine not overly happy with it yet once i get it finished i will post what it will be packin

What are you building the computer for? Gaming? Encoding? Wordprocessing?

roughly speaking here
From www.eyo.com.au

ChyangFun ATX Case CF-7029, 400W, Black/Silver $86.9
HDD SATA, Seagate Barracuda, 250GB, 3G/S NCQ, 8MB RoHS ST3250824AS $143
LG DVD Burner, GSA-H10ABB, Beige, OEM, Software $64.9
LCD 19", NU L922A Monitor 8ms w/Speakers, DVI & DVI Cable SLV/BLK $330
Asus S775, P5ND2-SLi nForce4SLI/1066FSB/DDR2/2xPCIex/GIGALAN/RAID/ATX $154
XFX GeForce 7600GT, T73G-UDD, 256MB DDR3, SLI/590MHz@1.6GHz $379.5
PQI DDR2 533MHz PC4200 PowerMemory, Dual Kit, 1GB(2x512MB) $123.2
Subtotal: $1,281.50

from www.diymarket.com.au
intel 805 dual core CPU 2.66ghz $200

$1481

for an additional $120 or so get a water cooling setup and you will probbly be good for ~4ghz on that CPU
(check toms hardware (www.tomshardware.com) for more info) you may want to beef up the PSU on that though, go to a real PC store and you will probbly get a better deal on all the bits)

Yeah, 805 turned out to be a bomb shell and a half. Who would have thought a budget dual core with 533 FSB would become an overclockers dream...

I think the most greatest thing about the 805 is that for $500 AUD (includes cost of water cooling), you can have a processor that has more bawls to it then the 955EE @ $1200.

Xeon... Personally not a fan of them, I'd preferr an Opteron 165 for a general high powered desk top or some of the better 2xx/4xx/8xx Opterons for a Server.
