The first NSW lightweight competition is over and while we could have done with a few more bots, it was definitely a success. Team Rotwang won, with Mega-Retread coming second. I can't remember the event tree, so here are some photos and general comments:
Splatter
Andrew had drive chain problems all day, but the concept is sound and version two should be an interesting bot to watch
ForkInHell
Jeff built this art bot, not really expecting it to compete. Nobody was more surprised than Jeff when it went 3/4 and came fourth (or was it fifth?).
ForkInHell was eventually knocked out by Mega-Retread - Jeff added some flame-proofing and fire retardant for that match, but the bot still copped a scorching!
Phailbot:
Glen and Angus's lightweight promised to entertain and didn't dissapoint!
Stay tuned for the video . Phailbot went on to put some serious hurt into Maestro, quite a surprise for such a mature bot.
Major Chip Hazzard
Jason had major electrical problems at the start of the day, after swapping to Glen's spare IBC, Chip Hazzard worked more reliably but lacked power due to the drill batteries. Jason has his eye on some nicads and HV Victors, so expect a better result next year.
Maestro
Garry put on his usual excellent performance with a well seasoned lightweight:
Unfortunately, a badly behaved NSW spinner (Phailbot) gave Garry this nasty surprise:
Weasle
Team Rotwang also ran their new lightweight bot, which looks nearly unbeatable:
It uses the same great drive system as Stainless Steel Rat and proved to be a winner - Congrats to Team Rotwang!
Buster
Chris put on a very leeek and pushy six wheel brick:
It featured some very high-tech urethane wheels from the Plannerz and generally did well, except against wedges.
Gamul
Definitely the coolest bot at the event, Jason's walker impressed everyone - wait for the video...
