RoboDamien: The metal shop (not really a year as i thought, they sell pre cut sheets, not too sure about anything else, scrap or box steel) is called Williamstown Sheet Metal- its in Cheery Lane Laverton if your looking for it.
Cerberus: yeah the ESC (sabretooth 2x25) is plugged into the reciever.

Schweet, thanks. You might want to put another hose clamp each onto the motors. Everyone else I've seen seems to put it on the endbells but I just put them on the gearbox since I'm mounting them on a plate like you rather than angle. _________________ It seemed like a good idea on paper...

Umm, just another question... when i turn all the gear on i have to trim (recentre, recalibrate?) the remote so the wheels stop spinning. Now thats not too difficult and only takes me 2 seconds to do. But after giving the [currently] 3-wheeled beast a spin to show friends the whole thing goes haywire. It will accelerate then reverse then spin, and after trimming it again the wheels will twitch.
Ive been using a full battery but im thinking theres not enough power for all 3 wheels from one batt. And if its not this then something must be wrong with the Sabretooth, so i was wondering if anyone has a solution or experienced this before.
Thanks again

OK, that is really odd, the battery should not affect the trim, just the maximum speed as they run flat. It sounds like the radio is drifting, what model is it again? Just a thought, have you checked the transmitter batteries are OK?

Or might be your radios getting interference i had that same problem a few times I don't know much about how to fix it tho other guys would know more just try and stand closer and see if it still happens? _________________ A journey of a million miles begins with a single step followed by a hell of a lot of other steps so get walking

Good point; what happens if the transmitter is turned off completely?

sounds like interference to me.
adjusting the trims is either bad calibration of the ESC or just old/crummy components.
In which case when you go full stick you might be going out of range and that can make thing behave oddly. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

That seems like interferance from the motors- I had this problem when I was turning my cousin's school project R/C. Try to keep the reciever antenna as far away from the motors as possible, that helped a bit at my end.
This page might help a bit, too http://www.teamdelta.com/pdf/tde_an1.pdf

Well the transmitters batteries are all new, checked that first. When the transmitters completely off the bot stays still.
Just ahd a play around, raised the bot off the ground and turned everything on. I stood directly behind the antenna, which is currently poking out the rear end through one of the slots, and everything was fine. I moved back a metre or went to the front of the bot and everything went twitchy again. So im thinking interferance...
The radio is the same as
this one
so its not the highest quality gear available...

the traxxas ones are just an AM radio and a very poor quality one at that. inteference for sure.
What would be the best choice for radio / recievers? Ive been looking through the forum and most people have 6-8 channel radios, but I only really need 3 channels. Are the higher ones more powerful, or just more expensive?
Im not looking for the most expensive, top notch, programmable remotes if they arent needed, but if you can only mix via them then i guess thats what i need.

Problem is interference isn't a complete absence of signal, you can get noise thats still valid pulses, just not the ones you want.
We used to get twitchyness even with the IBC/OSMC super narky control code. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

The SPektrum DX5e seems pretty good (for about $80-$100 with BR600) and it has mixing and everything.FOr cheaper you can get the GWS 4A (http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/0-GWS-GWT4A.html) with mixing as well but it doesn't have the 2.4ghz deliciousness. _________________ It seemed like a good idea on paper...
The AR500 RX as far as I can make out will failsafe ok if you’re ESC have normal loss of signal fail safe code.
The throttle channel is programmable.
As to how reliably they work with the BR6000RX I am yet to be convinced but I am tempted to get one anyhow. _________________ Satisfaction is proportional to effort and results.
