Very Deja-Vu on the power supply design part.. we went through all the same stuff for IBCs switching regulator design years back. The requirement of
Combat Bot controllers to run without brownouts or gate-drive problems on voltage sagging damn-near-flat batteries
is a real PITA for designers..
If that's a big problem, why not run the gate drivers from a small dedicated battery? After all, our "combat robot" run times are 10 minutes max, when playing. So by adding a small "buffer battery" to replace the voltage sagging vurnable switching regulators directly on the mains you can avoid a lot of brainsweat.
On the other hand, I'm by no means an electronics guy.

been there done that, pain in the ass.
put an ultracap on the battery (with a diode so its only running the logic)
regulate it down to 5v or so
then use an isolated boost supply to make vbat +12v
another boost supply for gnd + 12v for the low side.
Add ~$20 to the controller cost ;-> _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

I've just bought an OrangeRx T-SIX 2.4GHz DSM2 6CH Programmable Transmitter and OrangeRX RX3S 3-Axis Flight Stabilizer w/DSM2 Compatible 6CH 2.4Ghz Receiver.
So I'll report back in a few weeks on how they go with being used with robots _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

3-axis mems gyro. Just need to see if it's going to be any good in combat or if it's just going to cause a lot of troubles. _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

Honestly what use is a gyro like that in a combat robot? I'm betting on causing problems .. _________________ ( •_•)
I also bought a $5.89 OrangeRX R615 receiver a few weeks back.
These when stripped down look like they will be a good option for Antweights and Beetleweights. Once the servo pins are removed, the PCB is around the same size as a Pololu B328 and is a smaller then the HK T6A RX's. Being DSM2 it will work with the high quality Spektrum radios (DX4 / DX5e / DX6i / DX7) as well as the cheap high feature HK DSM2 based radios (T-SIX / 9X / DSM2 modules).
I'd just love to get my hands on some receivers that have the pins facing out the side rather than out the top. Such a pain to package the top mount ones due to height _________________ <Patrician|Away> what does your robot do, sam

Except it probably works better than the dx6i's ever did. _________________ ( •_•)
Yet another 3ch pistol radio - except this one is being offered at something around $21 plus shipping..! Looks a lot more analogue but perhaps makes it easier to modify. Seems to use the same receivers as the other hobbyking pistol radios (that are also compatible with the hk6's).
