Here is a list of cheap and cheerful parts that we recommend for your first robot. These are value for money and acceptable not necessarily the best you can buy.
These cheap eBay ESCs
take a bloody long time to ship but seem to work ok in the ants, although I'm reluctant to push them above 7.4V or use them on bigger motors.
The
Kmart 12v drills
I'm planning on using on my featherweight are certainly a cheap option, but as I haven't actually built/fought with it yet I'm not sure whether they're worth listing.

I had a look into that Flysky controller after you showed it off last month
While it doesn't support mixing out of the box, hacking it with
a firmware update
adds that and a heap of other features. A bit beyond most new builders (as well as the added cost of the flashing kit), but an interesting option.

Thats why I use those v tail mixers so simple to wire in. Not software mods.
Also recommended a different and cheaper controller.
