The braided rope might also be acting as a capillary system, liquid will flow through it to get to a hot spot where it'll evaporate, like a heat pipe.
I don't think you will want to lengthen your vaporisation tube too much (how much too much is is another question), if it gets too hot then the gas will coke in it and it could block up.
Also I'd run the tube "forward" so as the gas flows it heads towards the hottest part of the flame/assembly not away from it. Wouldn't want to condense anything out by accident. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

Cutting out prototypes is very addictive, its already helped fix a number of small issues. I wonder how many non-essential organs I'd have to sell to afford a 10Kw metal cutting model?
The mirror alignment problem is mostly fixed; the Y axis mirror needed a tweak and the entire X axis head module had to be raised up with a 3mm shim. The lens still needs checking but the alignment raised the output power by at least four times - it went from barely cutting through @ 5mm/sec to easily cutting @ 20mm/sec.
The next step is to attach as many internal parts as possible and check that the cables and CO2 hoses all fit. Another use for the model is to check that the bungee arm retraction works. Bungee cords have a poor reputation for breaking and there are some ideas I pinched from compound bows that might help. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

There are a couple of problems with the arm mounts and the CO2 hose has to be re-routed but everything else is looking good. It sure is - the model just fits on a 900 x 600 MDF sheet and cuts out in 17 minutes. I can see it paying for itself faster than I hoped. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

Rubber tube or basically any rubber thicker than the strands of a bungee cord are likely to last longer. I think its the tiny cross section of the bungee cord strands that causes them to break down. The next prototype flipper frame is ready. Apart from cosmetic changes and mounting points for the bungee, this is close to the final design:
Painting it was a huge mistake, the 'touch dry in 15 minutes' spray paint is still tacky after two hours ! When it eventually dries, I will start assembling the drive frain & electronics. With a UMHW skid pad on the front, the prototype should drive around safely (actual flipping, not so much).
Foam:
The laser cuts EVA foam really well. After several trail runs on old cardboard boxes, this tool foam draw worked out near-perfect:
