Ahh, still rather risky IMHO. Most inrunners have their wires coming out the back; you could easily rig up a tube mount that gave great thermal conduction to the water outside the housing. There would be no reason you couldn't mount more than two inrunners in-line for a very long and streamlined drive under the board.

put the motor in a sealed container with some thin oil (or coolant mix) then have a heat exchanger.

btw - I've seen jetski hulls on ebay for $60-200

I have a jetski impeller setup I'd sell too Smile

Just read Glens post (never noticed it before then), im thinking 2 of those massive outrunners would be the cheapest, and therefore easiest, apporach. Some SLA's to start off with, though they may be way too heavy, and make an impeller approx. 10cm dia. We are also thinking getting some polyurethane and fibreglassing it when everything is shaped and measured. And yeah, we understand that a little bit of water could have some very expensive consequences, but meh, it'll be fun and no-one else has made one, well an effective one because some Chinese or Indian suppliers have some shotty looking kits for sale.

Glen, Does that just mean get a massive pot, or would servo tester pots be modded to suit 30-48V?

the servo testers run at 6V, they don't take any current. All they are doing is replacing the control pulses that your radio would be sending to the ESC.

yep, i believe most of them have internal batteries for the logic voltage.

i always wanted to get one of those tow along water scooters they sell at jaycar (we got about 20 at my old work for whatever reason, was thinking of "borrowing" one when i was there Laughing ) and put an etek inside one.

was at jaycar today and theres enough room for that to occur haha. you could even fit about 4 of those giant outrunners in there i reckon with enough room for 48v of batteries Cool one day..

Water + electronics = never again. Try making a small rc boat, then consider making that massive investment... Laughing

LOL, are they seriously driving an Etek with a Turnigy ESC? FAIL! That gearbox looks very interesting - is it a differential or just for reduction?

doesn't look like a diff, the gears all seem permanently meshed with no way of moving. Pretty hardcore mechanically with all that CnC cut stuff, but the electrics are really an afterthought

that is a diff in the middle there.

It works like a helical LSD, but it doesn't have helical hears and won't have the LSD effect (whoa trippy man!)

Each axle will have a gear on the end, then they are joined with smaller overlapping ones.
When you rotate the whole assembly both axles are driven, but if one is off the ground the small gears can rotate and let that one spin while the other stops - and obviously anything in between for cornering!
