Few questions about Victors, Now with motor brushes!

Hello

I'm just about order a victor and PWM unit from robot marketplace but before I do I'd like to find out how much postage I'm going to be looking at.
What have you guys been charged? I was thinking about $20-30US. Is that about right? Shocked

Also, I am going to get an 883, would that be enough for one gopher motor? Or should I go for an 885?

Aswell, is anyone going to be doing an order to servocity sometime? I'm after 3-4 1/4 Scale servos. Just thinking it might be a bit cheaper on postage! Smile

Thanks
Simon

The postage sounds about right - I just paid about $45, which included a heavy DeWalt motor.

Couple of questions: What is the PWM unit and a gopher motor?

Ok cool thanks, the PWM unit is that thingo you need to drive the victor from a standard RC reciever.

Looks like an 885 would be a smart move, particularly if this will be carrying any weight.

Hmm, I think you might want to check out the motor specs and gearing before you buy an ESC

Well according to the Ebay link, it was stated that the motor had no brushes...

Gopher Wheels

Includes 2 X Wheels, 1 x Motor, Brushes have been removed (What you see is what you get!)

Working order unknown.

Sounds like a bit of a lemon Confused

Someone either needed the brushes to fix another motor, or they couldn't fix this motor - neither option sounds good. I can just see in the photo that the motor is rated for 180W continuous, which is good & bad news: the good news is that a Victor 885 will barely get warm driving the motor, the bad news is that you have a very low power to be pushing a lawn mower around. It would have gone better with a couple of Oatley 300W scooter motors.

How about emailing the EMC people? http://www.emppl.com.au/contact.htm

Ok, Interesting Smile
I pulled the motor off the gearbox las night and it has a Huge reduction in speed compared to the motor cupling (if that makes sense Laughing )
I was wondering about the watts too, 180w isn't alot for this type of motor but it dose 3000RPM! Maybe this is what makes them so efficent?

I emailed and called EMP, as yet I haven't been emailed back, but when I called I asked for a brush and cap kit, the woman said that the don't make them anymore, then she said tha you could but the brushes and caps seperate! Neutral Then when I ased for a price she said I have to fax in an order! so I did that today, now were eargly awaiting a response.

So if it ends up being a waste of Time I'll get 2 300watters and an IBC Wink

Well considering the Oatley 100W motors are given that rating as a continuous rating too but I have tested them to be closer to 220W. There is a big difference between a continuous rating and the peak rating.

Pushing a mower thru grass just seems a bit much for a 180W motor. Even if it was under rated, I'd think that much more power would be required. It would help to know the gear reduction and final wheel RPM - 180W would be more adequate with a larger reduction.

That depends; about right for what? With the motor going at 3,000, that would give you 187.5 rpm at the wheel.

Just had a thought: you said this was to push a lawn mower, what sort? If it is a regular 4 wheel model, you will have a hard time steering it. I just finished mowing the lawn today and it takes much more force to push a 4 wheel mower around a corner than in a straight line. If you are adding the extra driven wheels at the rear, I would suggest making an articulated frame and dropping the original back wheels.
