Latest development but I am still not happy with it.

Ignore the offset first few layers not sure what happened there, must have lost a few steps or my pulley has come loose again.

Main issue is not getting the size for the wheel right. Its about getting it to stay on the shaft. I think the only way to do it is going to be with a captive nut and a grub screw like the reprap ones. But that is going to end up pretty heavy for a wheel hub.

In the picture there is a grub screw which is just tapped into the PLA. (Doesn't really work strips too easy) I am open to suggestions on better ways to do it. Could go with the same way aaron does it and suggest drilling a hole and putting a pin through it.

We're currently having some issues sourcing the 1000RPM gearmotors at reasonable prices and ebay seems to be selling all the dodgy ones at the moment. I'm wondering if you beetle blokes would be interested in a 28mm planetary gear motor with a bigger, more powerful RS380 motor (6 - 18v rating, 4.5A @ 12v stall). They also have 6mm diameter x 20mm long output shafts with proper ball bearings. Weight wise is between approx 80-100g ea. I have the option of getting them in 850RPM or 2200RPM version which might suit people looking for a little less speed or a lot more speed.

On another Customer Relations note Razz

How has the micro motor face plate failure rate been going? I know when we initially started ants were were losing Pololu face plates very frequently at events.

I have not had a face plate pop off since moving to the BotBitz motors. They have been completely bent by scarlet but I accept that as probably a reasonable mode of failure. How has the NSW ants been fairing in particular? And any International lurkers here?

hows that compare weight wise with the current ones?

Also i'm not 100% sure that a ball bearing is better for our applications than a bushing.
in theory at least a bushing should be more robust.

Well the 28mm gearmotors are looking to be a bit problematic. They are 130g and we would be around $30 ea Sad Sad I can source the 25mm gear motors with a different, lower powered motor for cheap, but I don't think anyone wants lower power either Sad

I'll be sampling a few of the 2000RPM 28MM gear motors to see how they go (18km/h Beetleweight here I come Laughing), they should be decent for a wedge or rammer, but I assume they will be too expensive/heavy for people building beetles with weapons.

IMHO they're not worth your time, best concentrate on the ESCS and ant motors you can do better than anyone else and let people chance the 1000rpm motors in their own time... Laughing

i also have some planetary gearmotors that i dug out of Miele auto dishwasher door opening mechanisms that i want to mod to fit a decent motor and remove a planetary stage, i have quite a few of those and the gearboxes are good quality

Just ordered more stock to refill our inventories. 50:1 HP's should arrive next week, 30:1 HP's will be a couple of weeks after that.

Also, for some shameless promotion, we are also on Facebook

50:1HP's have arrived and will be in stock tonight!

And to top it off, our sample testing motors for featherweights arrived!

The motors have a peak rating of ~300watts on 20V (nominal) and we have two ratios to test, 330RPM and 1700RPM. The motors have 10mm diameter x 100mm long shafts, which should cater for 99% of featherweights. With the 20V nominal rating, these motors should run very nice on 18V - 24V (Unlike RS550's....)

Those look really nice actually, what size are the motors? 550, 775? and what kind of price.

If you could get a 600rpm and 1200rpm ratio those would be pretty sweet. those current two are a bit whacky lol.

post noods of em already Very Happy
