Very cool Angus

Basically the first thing you say is 'wear gloves when your breaking off the support material, its not worth the tools jabbing into your hand'

Learn from my mistakes!!! Laughing

Cheers for the video advice guys, will put into practice Very Happy

Miles, if you're not having problems with the raft lifting, don't worry about the abs juice, but if you are, you can put some on a paper towel and rub it on the perfboard, helps a great deal Smile don't pour it on like in the video, that's only for glass or ali beds where it's all smooth and flat.

Question

Do you use the included UP! software, or is there something better out there?

They'll only work with the UP software and to be honest, it's better than anything else out there, even software for the high end printers.. make sure you're running 1.19 or 2.0 . What don't you like about it? Smile

thanks to the tips there Angus...i like up the software….the only thing i don't like is the mac version isn't as good as the pc version….so we still have a pc just for printing….the software has never let us down. Very Happy

One thing you could mention in your vids Angus is never to let the filament run out…cause it jams the extruder. Sad

Oh the software is okay, but it doesnt rotate things to fit the bed when they can be made to fit, it doesn't show the support material in the preview, and it sometimes doesnt print things that preview OK - for example i downloaded an .eps file of the Toyota corporate logo, and it refused to print the logo part even tho it previews fine and isnt red anywhere, it just dabbed a few specks of plastic in it's place and made the raft for it. Also printing very thin sheets of plastic (1.00mm) sometimes works oriented along the y axis but not the x axis
The move, rotate, scale controls are horrible, fine to have them as they are for making mathematical adjustments, but some sort of mouse driven interface is needed alongside them
Would also be good if it previewed where its going to do that initial 3cm extrusion to clean up the feed or whatever, so i don't keep putting the bulldog clips in it's way on big prints Smile
Some clear explanation of what the various options in the print setting dialogs actually do would be nice as well (manual doesnt help here either)
And my number one complaint, why doesnt it lower the bed all the way down automatically after the print? I always have to do this in the maintenance dialog (along with setting the nozzle position to the rear left so I don't risk burning the back of my hand on it.

That sounds like a lot of whinging, but there are lots of good points about it though, its very clever software generally and the fact that it actually came with an English manual is awesome Smile I love the machine generally, it kicks so much ass

There was a new version of the Mac software released recently and it is good enough that I no longer run a Windows machine for my printing.

Yepyep, the latest mac version brings everyone up to date. Smile

Trust me jaemus, the GUI on the up software may seem clunky, but having used legit software for a 60K objet machine where you have to change menus to rotate and scale things... and guess for the most part if it'll even print, it's much more user friendly! Shocked Oh by default it covers everything in support jelly, and (even top surfaces to get a 'matte' finish) at 300 bucks or so for 500grams of resin that really is a bit cheeky >_>

Finally got around to doing a vid on how myself and Stevo do the Acetone smoothing, with a rice cooker. Laughing It's really long but I didn't edit the process down at all, so you can get a good feel for how long it takes. Also has the much necessary disclaimer at the start... Laughing

EDIT: Also youtube's annotations seem to be totally broken... Sad

Nice video Anguz. Did you print all those models using PP3DP filament or the cheap Bilby stuff?

@ mj Just make sure the part is cool, and you do the smoothing out of direct sunlight! It really just doesn't work at all if the part gets too hot...

@ Aaron All except the lime green are PP3DP, I've never ordered from bilby. I'll be doing a review on some new aussie filament soon from a company that used to make fishing mono, it's probably the best I've found next to the genuine up stuff so far and smooths awesome. Smile

Sweet. I like using the cheap crap for bashing out random tests and proto's, but the official stuff works best for anything requiring quality

Have you done the temp mod? It makes the aftermarket plastic so much less crap, but it still wont smooth nice. Smile
