sorry for double posting, i had a thought (GASP)
One thing would like to bring up for this robowars and maybe it should be a rule is that before and after a match u can not go and talk with the judges, like talking with them over how the days going and how the footy game last night was etc r all good but i have seen many times afer a match competitors going to judges disputing their case and trying to persuade their decision.
I honestly think if u cant prove yourself in the arena with your machine and need to resort to quick talking to win a match then thats plain weak
Just my opinion though so if it happens or not then whatever but was just a thing i noticed and wanted to bring in the open
One things for sure, my machines will do all the talking in the arena _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

Andrew is right. It is bad form to argue with the judges.
I like the way we judge the fights in QLD. We use a secret ballot by all of the non-competing roboteers to decide close matches. That way the people judging the match know the judging criteria. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

Well, now is a good time to debate any desireable changes to the system of judging used at RoboWars.
I'm open to altering it provided there is sufficient time to consider and get opinions prior to an event.
Not having to rustle up 3 judges who have to watch every match would make things easier for me too..
So, is there anything else that suggests one system over another ? _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

huh,
im not saying alter anything or change the rules or judging proceedings, im just saying after a match both contestants go fix their bots/do whatever and leave the judges alone untiltheir decision is made thats all _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

I agree, in the heat of the moment I think there is a tendency to say things that might be regretted after.
The Judges have a tough enough job as it is without angry competitors arguing with them.
The judges decision is final weather you like it or not.
If you don’t like judge’s decisions you should build a knockout bot and cut them out of the loop.
At a big event it’s hard to a secret ballot thing, not everyone can watch, as bots have to be prepped etc, fine for small events.

Perhaps we should just have a little rule that compeditors cannot talk with the judges at all after their match till the winner is announced? That would make it fair.
And if you need to "explain" your bot to them, perhaps they can come around in the saftey check at the start of the event, and get a good understanding of the robot?
But yeah, arguing with the judges is just plain bad sportsmanship.

We'd run into problems with the whole state vs state thing too _________________ Jeff Ferrara

I may be naive, but I think that we have the integrity to vote based on the fight rather than any other consideration.
We can always try the secret ballot and see if it works. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

I still think the size of the event may hinder that approach... _________________ ( •_•)
