Be careful using hobby speed controllers..
Most of them are ridiculously over-rated in terms of amps compared to Robot controllers (they often advertise tiny single fet controllers with postage stamp sized heatsinks as capable of hundreds of amps), which they might be for a tenth of a second. The hobby guys are an awful lot about wank and appearance, not combat.
Also, they often have reverse-delays of up to 1 second, meaning if your going forwards and suddenly decide you want to go backwards (which happens 50 times a minute ina combat bot), they will go dead for 1 second, then go backwards. This is to protect the drive gears of a hobby racing car, which never suddenly needs to slam into reverse while moving forward at high speed, unlike a bot.
Some of them can have to reverse delay switched off or adjusted to 0 seconds (same thing), but not many.
So make sure you're cheap speed controllers dont turn out to be a waste of $. Some hobby controllers work well in smaller bots, but not many. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people
