What is important

On Sunday, dad nearly died of a heart attack. His heart had to be restarted 13 times. He is a lot better now. You sudenly forget about everything that was worrying you for the past days, weeks and months when a family member is close to death.

I skipped the last day of Robowars and dropped in on dad after church on Sunday. He looked fine and we sat and chatted for 20 minutes or so about nothing important.

I was told that dad had a large heart attack that afternoon and was taken to hospital when I arrive at church that night. Ten minutes latter I got a call to tell me that the hospital was calling for the family to come immediately.

I drove up not knowing whether dad would be dead or alive when I arrived. I was very glad we had that twenty minute chat.

Today they are moving dad from coronary care to the coronay ward. It is a very good sign. They are planning to give dad a stronger pacemaker next week.

We all need to remember what is important and not get hung up on the trivial issues.

Best wishes of health to your Dad, Philip. The week before RW3, I had to jump in the car and drive with my dad to go see his father who was having heart problems as well. We drove 6hrs straight to get to Rockhampton and stayed the weekend.

Sure wasn't the greatest feeling when driving that distance, wondering if we were going to make it in time.

That's really sad, having a loved one in such a bad situation. If (when) I get to that point, I am definitely signing a DNR - no point having more than one mercy dash for the relatives.

Thanks all.

It has been more than 25 years since dad first started having heart attacks. I look upon all of this time as a bonus.

I am very glad that we have so many medical treatments these days. I have been on Lipitor for many years now. We have a genetic disorder in my family causing us to over produce colesterol. I have reached the ripe old age of 39 without any heart attacks.

IMO all we can do is enjoy this life and plan for the next one.

I feel sorry for you both. You have lost so much. Your circumstances are completely unfair. You have suffered much worse than me.
