basically its probably easier and possibly better to play games in windows.
Otherwise get stuff that runs in linux.
I believe most of ID's stuff is available, (and heck i think half of it is in the packages for ubuntu, you just need the media (IE an origional disk)) _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

Updated my Ubuntu 6.06 Drapper -> 6.10 Edgy
The easiest OS upgrade I've ever done...
One command line, it downloaded the updates (700mb 1.5hr download), it did all the configuration and installs (20mins) and a reboot and it's now under Edgy goodness . Just have to fix my VMWare again Seems everytime I change the kernal is flips out, lucky it is as simple "cd /usr/bin/" followed by a "./vmware-install" and just hold the enter key down for 2mins for it to do all the automagical schtuff
Linux is my new computer love
Next thing on the cards is a Beryl installation to get that glassy Aero Vista look without the resource raping and pillaging on my system _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

VMware has hooks into the kernel (modules) so it can trap and virtualise stuff better and faster.
so a kernel update means you need to update the vmware modules too. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

the difference is massive on a modem.
The higher the latency the bigger the difference. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

It's speed up a lot of forums I visit. I'm usually waiting 1-2 seconds, now with fasterfox, I'm getting pages loaded in around 0.700 - 0.800 seconds... Not too shabby
Lovin Beryl at the moment, have all my windows lighting up on fire and burning to ashes when I minimise them _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

I also got Trent into it, and he has a few mates from work running it now too
I also have 2 of my friends testing it in between windows formats and crashes _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

I'm running a Mandriva Linux Box. and been using Mandrake for quite a few years now.
Ubuntu is certainly the flavour of the moment though, probably due to Mark Shuttleworth tipping lots of $ into its support and promotion. Time will tell if its a short lived flavour or becomes one of the long survivors.
The support for it is building at an impressive rate though, so I might pop another hard drive in my Linux Box and have a tinker with it soon Changing Distro's every now and then is good for learning, since it forces you to learn the general principles underlying them all, rather than just how "brand X" linux does this that way.
I'd like to run it full time on my Laptop, but it doesnt seem to be very good at reliably and quickly switching between different wireless networks as I move from business to business yet.. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

That is one of the current focus's in the next release of Ubuntu (7.04 Fiesty Fawn) as shown
here
for the main updates or
here
for the direct focus on network roaming.
OT: It took me two years to convert my mum from Outlook Express and Internet Exploder to Thunderbird and Firefox... I reckon I'll have her using Ubuntu within the next 12 months That or I'll just build her new computer with only Linux on it _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/
