new robot time!
got a few nice little bits and pieces i thought i should put into a robot to have a weaponed obot to play with.
to that end heres what it has so far.
- 18v drill motors and andrew mods with 95mm blue wheels from jake.
- 125mm diameter - 300mm long 5kg steel drum.
- 24v 2.4ah nicad pack
- IBC controller.
- chain drive off either a scooter motor or series wound fan motor.
at the moment i have it all spinning and am playing around with the settings to see if i want to use the fan motor or scooter motor. fan motor has way more speed but much lower torque and vice versa. may well use the scooter. its torque is more than impressive given its using about a 1:1.5 / 1:1.8 increase in gearing.
yes, its extremely tiny. the bushes dont work too badly but it goes way better on the bearings ive got for it so i guess that cant hurt to implement.
note the gigantic chain for the power transmission. very small sprockets too so little chance of them getting a hit. need to get the drum fully welded too.
another shot showing bits of the 30mm thick plastic shell. ill have to get more to remake it to my liking. its about 20mm too tall as it is.
frame will be very different to what you see. very much like falconiser when its done actually with wedges and the front forks and what not.
hopefully ill get it all knocked over in my 10 day break. woohoo.
and heres a 6v test. for the curious its shaking so much because i didnt realise it was slightly grinding the teeth on the table

good thing no one taped todays testing then XD
screwed the thing to a piece of MDF and screwed the motor to the side of the frame for some ghetto testing.
threw a thin chemical drum at it and managed to hurl that across the arena a few times and smash it into the last UV light in there when we chucked orbits frame into it, it gave it a good throw and bent the entire tooth because its not welded all the way. ill have to bend it back and fully weld it or replace it with some falconizer esque teeth
24v gives a pretty fine spin up time for a scooter motor with a gearing increase. seems to get it up there to max speed in 5-6 seconds. motor gets very hot after 3 minutes or so, guess thats a sign of it being a good balance the bushings have also freed up tons since i wd-40d the hell out of them. will whack up a video soon.
with all new wishalloy batteries buy now for a free ubobtanium case. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets
