Im an 19 year old uni student studying computing. Ive never done anything engineering wise or what not, but just interested if there are any groups in sydney i might be able to join or learn with?

Plenty of NSW guys located in and around Sydney to help you get started. If your able to, drop into the Robot Serial Killers this month, you'll get an up close and personal view of the antweight and beetleweight catagories
As mentioned I highly recommend attending the upcoming event! The venue is basically opposite the UTS tower right in the city, easy to get to.
If you're after a workshop area to use to start making things you could have a look at the robodino hackerspace. They're located in Gladesville along Victoria rd and have all sorts of tools you can use for a monthly membership. http://robodino.org/
