Hey guys, a couple of friends from school and i are interested in building a robot to compete in the Australian robot wars competition, i just thought i'd i check up on a couple of things before we get really serious. First of all, are there still regular competitions happening, in victoria specifically. Your website hasnt been updated since 2005, are you still using the same rules? and which is currently the most popular weight division? When is the next competition in victoria, or even a build meet or somthing, so we can have a look at some robots and say hello to everybody. Any other information relative to the noobs would be great
Thanks in advance

Yes things are happening in Vic.
Sidetracked have decided to keep the mobile arena up full time so we can have small events through the year rather than just the one big Robowars event, We are getting together every 4 to 6 weeks at Sidetracked for either a builders meet / test and tune or a one day event.
We are currently trying to sort out dates so I can’t say definitely but possibly a builder’s meet in 2 weeks and an event in 3 or 4.
The builders meet will be a low priority one but I have to go there to deliver a rental bot and do some testing so it’s a chance to catch up if anyone wants to turn up.
Sidetracked are willing to work in with us in that if you check with them first it’s generally OK to use the arena for testing or a grudge match whenever there open.

Welcome to the forum
featherweight btw is the most popular with a couple of lights that are not ready to compete.
keep an eye out on the link nick posted and that forum in general for any events and build meets planned.
youtube and build threads are good for ideas on bots and stuff.
the wikki is also useful for a few things _________________ Remember to trust me, I am an Engineer.

Website hasnt been updated since 2005 ?
Unless you mean just the rules section (which has not significantly changed since then) you must have not seen the links to the forum, the next event section, wiki, recent videos and rankings ? _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

maybe you should change the heading page of the website or somthing , cos now that youve mentioned it it does seem to have been updated but one of the main pages mentions recent media articles as of 2005, which is kind of missleading as when i first glanced through the site a couple of moths ago i just assumed the competition wasnt running anymore

The way to keep up with things is to follow the forum, you have found that now.
So welcome, we are always happy to have new builders / competitors joining in. _________________ Satisfaction is proportional to effort and results.
Just dropped in for a few minutes to see how things are going.
Myself and a few other locals are looking to go on a building frenzy.
I see Qld now has an organisation for bot combat - looking good.

good to hear from you. We have been doing a little organising here but things have slowed down a bit the last few months.
Check the state specific thread for our next meeting next week. _________________ Get Some!!!

There will an end of year backyard event on Dec 6th.
Have a look at the Vic Backyard event thread.
this will be a good one to meet the guys and have a relaxed chat, rather than a Robowars nationals that can be full on. _________________ Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.
